Acorns to Oaks: Mapping

Sat 21 May, 10.30am, Deveron Arts office

Drop-in mapping activity of Huntly and oak trees

Help us map Huntly and its history with oak trees in this workshop led by artist Anne Murray. With 49 oaks planted last year in the White Wood, Anne is investigating the history of other oak trees in the town.

This is a creative map making session using collage, found objects, photographs, stories, folklore and drawings. We will create a large map to describe the route between The Square and the White Wood.

This event is complimented by a walk to the White Wood the week prior, join us for the Oak Walk on 18 May at 6.30pm. You don’t need to be able to draw to take part. Share your stories and photos of the trees on the route.  All materials will be provided, just bring yourself and your creativity.

The White Wood was planted by and for the community of Huntly in 2015, from Caroline Wendling's Oaks & Amity project. It is a living monument to peace and will have an official launch day on 28 May: The White Wood Gala. The map will be used to guide participants on the parade during this day.

Meet in the Brander Building 10.30am – 12.30pm. All welcome. Stay for the whole session or drop in. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
