Instrument

Musician Allysson Velez came from Recife/Brazil to Huntly in Autumn 2012. During his residency he explored the cultural similarities and traditions of his home state of Pernambuco in the North East of Brazil, with those of Huntly and the North East of Scotland. He collaborated with local musicians to produce NordEste/North East, an experimental album, in which local Scottish tunes are mixed with Brazilian beats. He also held a weekly drumming workshop at the Stewarts Hall, which culminated in a Samba parade for the Halloween Festival in Huntly. On display is a traditional berimbau instrument, made by Allysson for this project, titled Ceilidhcatu.
