Come along to a new weekly film club in Huntly and join us in watching experimental, alternative and artist-made films.

Exploring how film can reveal, provoke and reflect the past, present and future, the film club will be a home for film in its broadest sense - from humorous critiques of historical narratives to careful documentaries, tongue-in-cheek romances, to films challenging traditional filmmaking practices, and many more.

Each week’s programme will be responsive to the week before – building from the conversation, reflections, suggestions and interests of everyone who joins in.

This week, visiting curator Dr Marianne Mulvey introduces the 2024 film Respondents by musician and sculptor Rita Evans in collaboration with dancer Marguerite Galizia. The film fuses sound, sculpture and movement to form a dialogue with organic elements such as air, algae, ground, skin and water. Respondents is accompanied by a selection of short films by renowned British filmmaker John Smith, as well as one by Lucy Cash and Simone Kenyon produced by the National Theatre of Scotland and Scottish Sculpture Workshop.

No knowledge or experience of films, filmmaking or the subjects covered is required to join in – this is a relaxed screening with space for questions and curiosity.
