Alternative Film Club #7
This week marks the final Alternative Film Club, hosted by artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects, Bojan Fajfrić. Come along for the last edition, featuring experimental, alternative and artist-made films – from humorous critiques of historical narratives to careful documentaries, tongue-in-cheek romances, to films challenging traditional filmmaking practices, and many more. Over the last couple of months, each week’s programme has been responsive to the week before – building from the conversation, reflections, suggestions and interests of everyone who joined in. For this week’s screening, Deveron Projects’ Co-Director Jenny Salmean will introduce a short film by Gartly-based artist Sarah Craske, called An Eco-Hauntology (2022). Commissioned for the 2022 Whitstable Biennale, An Eco-Hauntology documents an immersive, site-responsive installation in which climate narratives are projected onto a screen of water vapour. Merging science and hauntology, it evokes past and future environmental trauma through sound, film, and atmosphere. The work confronts viewers with their entanglement in unstable climate systems—both physically and emotionally. Continuing the focus on uncertain futures and ecological concerns, we will also watch Offshore (2021) produced by Pacifique Pictures and Directed by Hazel Falck. Filmed in Aberdeen, Newcastle and Grimsby, Offshore brings together varying perspectives on working in offshore oil and gas and renewable energy – and explores what the coming energy transition means for workers and communities around the North Sea. No knowledge of film is required to join in – this is a relaxed screening with space for questions and curiosity. Refreshments will be provided. Click here to reserve your spot.
