Art Road Trip: Friday Lunch with Natasha Ruwona
Come along for this special Friday Lunch, and hear from Natasha Ruwona, current artist-in-residence on our Art Road Trip programme, who will talk about her work and how it connects to the Art Road Trip programme.
Based between Edinburgh and London, Natasha is a Scottish-Zimbabwean artist, writer and researcher. Her work contemplates place, time and memory; relating these to the environment, landscape and geography through spatial practice and Afrofuturism – a philosophy that connects African diasporic experience with possible and imagined futures.
We've been working with Natasha to develop our Art Road Trip programme, aiming to build connections between the National Gallery’s collections and the North-East of Scotland. We are starting from a place of asking; (how) are places like Aberdeenshire represented in the collections? What do landscape paintings tell us about how our place is perceived? Whose stories are told and what’s omitted? How do these paintings inform how we understand our place and who lives here?
Natasha has developed a walk as part of the programme- find out more about this here.
About Friday Lunch
The sharing of food is a great leveller. On the second and fourth Friday of the month, we invite people who live or work in and around Huntly to speak about things they are passionate about- this could include their work, a project, an area of research or hobby! Topics are broad and change every time, from nature to community development, writing to food, among many others. Everyone is welcome to join in - just turn up on the day!
