Art Road Trip: Schools' exhibition
Pick up a map at the Square Deal hub and follow the trail to see over 150 artworks by children in Huntly and the surrounding area, created as part of the National Gallery's flagship education programme, Take One Picture. Presented in windows of local businesses and shopfronts, this ambitious exhibition turns the town into a gallery, and centres the creativity of children and young people across the whole of the Art Road Trip programme.
In early February 2024, 22 primary school teachers participated in the Take One Picture expressive arts CPD programme led by the expert National Gallery education team here in Huntly. Focusing on the painting, The Cornfield by John Constable, the programme took this one picture and invited teachers to explore how they could use the painting to create cross-disciplinary projects in their classrooms.
Following the CPD session, children and teachers from 5 local primary schools, developed their own projects and responses to the Cornfield with support from Deveron Projects. From painting to writing, sculptures to minecraft, the results are outstanding and inspiring, showing how just one picture can inspire imagination, child-led creativity and play.
Schools participating in the exhibition include; Forgue Primary School, Gordon Primary School, Largue Primary School, Lumsden Primary School and Rhynie Primary School. A huge congratulations to all the children taking part and thanks to all of the local businesses and groups who have agreed to host the exhibition.
