8 December 2025, 5pm – 8pm, Square Deal
The Big Food Chain 2025
Join us to round off the year with our annual festive Big Food Chain, taking place Monday 8th December, 5-8pm in Square Deal. This year, to celebrate another year of monthly good food gatherings, you’re invited to join in with a hot pot meal hosted by Keng Keng Tang, current artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects. Traditionally served as a pot of delicious stock simmering on a hob in the centre of the table, hot pot originated in China and can be enjoyed in many different ways from region to region, from the spice-filled hot pots in Sichuan to the seafood influences in Guangdong. The bubbling broth is accompanied by an array of ingredients such as carrots, spring onions, tofu and noodles, which are added to the communal pot before scooping out to enjoy once cooked. For this hot pot, everyone is welcome to bring along vegan/plant-based ingredients to add to the hot pot, which we will wash and chop as we go. Examples of tasty hot-pot ingredients include:
- Courgettes
- Broccolli
- Spring onions
- Fresh herbs
- Root veg, such as carrots, potatoes or baby turnips
- Glass noodles
- Tofu
We will have a selection of ingredients available too. The broth pots will be on the hobs from 5pm onwards, but please feel free to drop-in whenever suits you best - the pots will be kept simmering and topped up until 8pm.
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to Food Chain this year, our regular community-led cookery workshop that celebrates the diversity of cultures and cuisines within our local communities. From celebrating Asian New Year in February with the Huntly Language and Diversity group, to tacos, vinaigrette, soda bread and nettle soup, risotto, enjoying Welsh cakes, and much more, it’s been a pleasure to share food with everyone who has come along. Thanks to Undra, Fang Fang, Julia, Mariia, Paulina, Liz, Sarah, Thom, Ruaridh, Abinaya and Keng Keng, and to everyone who came along. Book a space here
