29 October 2025, 6pm – 8:30pm, Square Deal
Block Printing for Resistance
You don’t need to have any experience to join in with this Block Printing workshop, led by artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects, Keng Keng Tang. Block printing is the process of creating a block - usually from lino - which is carved with a design. When used to print on paper or fabric, the design is revealed. It is quick and easy to learn.
Drawing from Keng Keng’s experience of using block printing to support climate action protests, this workshop will lead you through the process from start to finish. You will learn how to design, cut and print your own block. We will consider how to make an effective and visually impactful print, looking to histories of protest printing and Keng Keng’s experience in this area. In the workshop we will make multiple prints onto textiles, including fabric that will be used for a community quilt. All printing materials will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring tshirts, bags, or other items to print upon with your block.
As our right to protest continues to be eroded in the UK, we invite you to join us in learning skills that enable expression, togetherness and collective action within our communities.
