For this month's Food Chain, we'll be joined by our current Erasmus Intern Dina Salimi, who has joined us at Deveron Projects for a few months from where she lives in Turkey. Dina has chosen a dish that reminds her of her home country of Iran and her mother's cooking - Fesenjan, a Persian chicken or tofu stew with pomegranates and walnuts.

Click Here For The Recipe! Whilst we cook our Fesenjan all together, we'll learn about the current protests happening in Iran in which many women are fighting for their equality and freedom (see below for more information). Come along to show your support for Iranian and Kurdish women and to learn how to cook a delicious favourite dish of Dina's! A note from Dina - This is a dish that I really love. It's not something that I regularly have, which makes it even more special when I do cook it! This is my first time in my life that I'm making this dish as my mum always cooked it for me, especially when we'd have guests over for dinner, but I'm excited for the challenge of cooking this with other people. Pomegranates are something I really love - it's a special fruit for me. When I was a kid we had a pomegranate tree in our garden and it was a common tree in my family's garden too. I loved watching the pomegranates grow and become really juicy, and my cousins and I used to play with them to get the juice out! Pomegranates remind me of growing up in Iran. My father is from a city in the north of Iran called Saveh which is very famous for its pomegranates which always have the fruit at market stalls!   We'll be hosting this workshop in Square Deal (22 The Square, Huntly) with limited spaces available. A donation of £5 per person is suggested - if you want to donate, you can pay on arrival in cash. Please email jess@deveron-projects.com to book your space!  Event info Resources The current protests taking place in Iran have been sparked by the killing of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman who was detained by the so-called 'morality police' after being accused of incorrectly wearing a hijab. The strict dress code has been obligatory for women in Iran since shortly after the Islamic revolution of 1979, and many women have been raising their voices against this ruling and lack of personal choice since then. We'll be using walnuts at this Food Chain. If you have a severe nut allergy, we'd advise not to book onto this workshop. It will be possible not to include walnuts in the dish for those with less severe nut allergies. There is a vegetarian option with this dish to use tofu, but this recipe will be using chicken for a non-vegetarian stew too. We won't be using any dairy ingredients.
