Food Chain: It all begins with a curry
Food carries its own geography. A cuisine from another country, even when cooked somewhere else, can shift the whole room. The air starts to feel familiar. The distance fades a little, and in that moment, it becomes home for someone. That's the feeling at the heart of Food Chain.
Food Chain is a monthly community cook-along, where we gather around a simple idea: food tastes different when it carries someone’s story, and by cooking together we can celebrate the diversity of cultures and cuisines within our local community. It’s an informal, fun and friendly event in which a member of our community shares a recipe that means something to them and reminds them of home.
This month, Abinaya will be sharing her recipe for Chicken Kurma and Potato Kurma (a vegan-friendly alternative), with chapathis to go alongside. These dishes come from the everyday rhythm of a South Indian home: slow, comforting and full of aromatic flavours. They’re the kind of meals that make people pause, sit together and unwind. Coconut, gentle spices and a long simmer bring out the warmth you usually find only in a family kitchen.
Gluten-free and vegan options will be available.
After we’ve cooked together, we’ll sit down as a group and enjoy the meal.

Gluten-free and vegan dishes will be made.

About Food Chain
Food Chain asks a simple question: what does “home” taste like for people who live and work in Huntly? Each month we learn someone else’s recipe of home, cook side by side and share stories that remind us why food creates a sense of belonging. Please book early since these sessions fill up quickly.
About the Home Programme
Food Chain is part of our Home Programme, a series of regular community events celebrating lived experience, local knowledge and the flow of ordinary life in Huntly community. Alongside Food Chain, the programme includes Friday Lunch and a stall at the Huntly Farmers’ Market. If you’d like to contribute or know someone with a recipe and story worth sharing, email info@deveron-projects.com.
