23 January 2026, 1pm – 2pm, Square Deal
Friday Lunch: Artist Talk
Join us for Friday Lunch on Friday 23 January, 1-2pm in Square Deal for a talk by Glasgow-based artist Ashanti Harris. Lunch will be vegetable soup with crusty bread or g/f oatcakes.
Ashanti is one of Deveron Projects’ current artists in residence and is working on a long-term project exploring the connections between people, land and energy in and around Huntly. Ashanti works between dance, performance, facilitation, sound, installation and writing. Her work disrupts dominant historical narratives and reimagines them from a Caribbean diasporic perspective. Alongside her creative practice, Ashanti is co-founder of Project X – a community interest company platforming dance of the African and Caribbean diaspora in Scotland. She is also a Research Advisor for Body Remedy, a [forming] ecology centring the experiences of black people and people of colour who identify as women and/or non-binary. For Friday Lunch, Ashanti will introduce us to her practice and what she is working on in Huntly.

About Friday Lunch
The sharing of food is a great leveller. On the second and fourth Friday of the month, we invite people who live or work in and around Huntly to speak about things they are passionate about – this could include their work, a project, an area of research or hobby. Topics are broad and change every time, from nature to community development, writing to food, among many others.
About the Home Programme
This event is part of the Home Programme, a series of regular community events taking place at Deveron Projects. The Home Programme celebrates local knowledge and experiences, and explores what it's like to live and work in and around Huntly. It includes Friday Lunch, as well as the monthly Food Chain cookery workshop and a stall at the Huntly Farmers' Market. If you'd like to contribute to the Home Programme, or know someone who you'd love to hear from, then get in touch with us on info@deveron-projects.com.
