Huntly Hairst: Mini Quilt Workshop

The Huntly Hairst is an annual festival celebrating Huntly’s local and food traditions.. It takes the form of an extended Farmers' Market across the town square, central streets and community buildings, with over 50 stalls showcasing local produce and crafts. There are cookery demonstrations and competitions, including The World Stovies Championship, Huntly's Room to Run race and even more events throughout the week. Check out the Hairst website for full details of the festival! On the day we will be sharing a full programme of events and workshops in the Brander Community Garden and Square Deal Community Hub. Across both locations, we’re delving into the roles that gardening, printing and quilting have in community building and histories of resistance. Find out more about our full programme here.   In Square Deal, we're exploring quilting and its radical histories. As part of the day, Huntly Sewcial organisers and quilters Rosemary McCafferty and Colin Brandi will be hosting a mini quilt making workshop, suitable for beginners and improvers. Learn how to make the simple ‘Sword Dance’ quilt block pattern and create a mini quilt to take home. All materials and tools will be provided, although if you are welcome to bring along your own. Click here to reserve your spot.

Accessibility- This is a free event, and suitable for anyone interested in quilting, from no experience to improvers.- We expect up to 12 people to join this session.- Hairst is a really busy event in the Huntly calendar. Aswell as this workshop, there will likely be folks coming in and out of this space to take part in other aspects of our programme. The Square Deal Garden (located at the back of the building) is a designated quiet space for the day if you need it. - There is a guide to visiting Square Deal online here. This includes information on travelling to the venue, photos and plans of the space, and sensory information.
