25 April 2026, 11am – 2:30pm, Square Deal
Quilting Circle #6
Join us for a family-friendly morning of quilting, followed by a seasonal lunch and a screening of Future Council, at this Quilting Circle in collaboration with Parents for Future Scotland.
For this workshop, we will draw and stitch hopes for the future onto our community quilt, which is being made with artist Keng Keng Tang. We will have some lunch, before cosying up under the quilt with snacks to watch a special screening of Future Council (Damon Gameau, 2024). Future Council is a documentary that takes eight kids on the ultimate school excursion: a road trip across Europe to challenge powerful leaders and find solutions to our greatest ecological challenges.
In making a quilt, we are making something that will last into the future, with care for the people who will use and benefit from it. It is future-looking, from the simplicity of a quilt’s lasting warmth and comfort, to the social justice movements that quilting can contribute to. Through this Quilting Circle and special screening we will consider what it takes to care for our collective futures.

About the Quilting Circles
Quilting circles have long been spaces to gather, resist, and learn together, building solidarity through fabric and stitches. Put simply, quilting circles are meet ups where communities come together to make quilts, often through intricately stitching together layers of fabric. From the Alabama-based Freedom Quilting Bee, to Public Library Quilt’s Grief Quilt for Palestine, examples of quilting circles, or ‘bees’, can be found the world over: their common thread is always stories of community care and resistance. This quilting circle, which forms part of Keng Keng’s residency, will explore how mutual care and rest can be embodied and facilitated by a community, and how these practices can come to life through the processes of making and utilising a quilt.
No knowledge of quilt making or textiles is required to be a part of the Quilting Circle - this will be a relaxed session with opportunities to learn, ask questions and meet others. All materials will be provided.
The Quilting Circle forms part of Keng Keng Tang’s Square Deal residency at Deveron Projects. Over 6 months, Keng Keng will be weaving mutual care, togetherness and rest, through the five senses in Huntly’s creative community hub. More information about their residency can be found here
