Workshop: planning (or plotting) a garden
Where to start with planning a garden? From a window box to a roadside verge, a front lawn to an established allotment, the first step is considering what might grow well on your plot, and what you want to grow! What would you like to eat and enjoy from a garden? What does the garden, and its non-human inhabitants need to thrive? What might a plot of land provide for you, for wildlife and our wider community? All were welcome at this garden planning workshop with gardener Lindy Young to have a go at plotting out and planning your garden. Together we looked at the Brander Garden, or your individual plot, and explore the questions above to make practical plans for our gardens this year. Lindy was on hand to answer any questions, give advice and ideas, and share her experience of gardening here in Huntly. This event included a short walk to the garden behind the Brander Building from Square Deal. The participants could bring along photos or plans of your garden, or take part in planning out the community garden behind the Brander Building. This event is the first in a series of gardening workshops, forming part of the project Caretakers’ Garden at Deveron Projects. It is running alongside a Farmers’ Market stall focusing on the UK-wide Right To Grow campaign.
