Garden Residency

1 / 2

Throughout September 2023, artist, bodyworker and herbalist Ju Scott joined us on residency as part of the project Caretakers Garden.

Based in the Brander Garden, Ju used this public, communal space as an artist’s studio – exploring the garden and getting to know its inhabitants, both human and more-than-human. Connecting with the garden through sound, movement, smell, taste and meditation offered alternative ways of understanding this space, sharing its offerings and caring for the garden community’s diverse needs.

Over the month, Ju worked with gardener-in-residence and carer, Lindy Young, and the garden volunteers, to begin the process of creating a sustainable care plan for the garden. Alongside this Ju will share aspects of the garden and their movement and sound practice with the Numero Uno group, who are currently unable to physically access the space (it is not wheelchair accessible). Ju worked with the group and Lindy to develop movement scores to interpret and enjoy together after the residency ended.
