Future Studio
Future Studio is a new creative and critical learning programme organised by Deveron Projects in collaboration with The Gordon Schools (TGS) in Huntly.
Formed to support young people from S3-S5 in their ambitions, ideas and understandings of the arts and creative industries, the current programme features workshops with artists-in-residence at Deveron Projects, trips to Scottish Sculpture Workshop and Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, and sessions with our team here at DP.
Our first two workshops explored questions, What is socially-engaged art? How can we care for each other through making art? and What does it mean to be an artist? We heard from artist-in-residence Keng Keng Tang about their practice, and how they build community through practices such as block printing, quilting and sharing meals, whilst contributing to the community quilt.
At the next session we headed to Scottish Sculpture Workshop for a day of playing with clay, a tour of their workshops, and to find out more about what it’s like to work at an art organisation.
Artist Ashanti Harris led the next workshop, exploring place, memory and connection through a sound walk.
In the coming weeks we are planning a visit to Grays' School of Art in Aberdeen to get a taste of what art college can offer.
