Love Is: Conflict resolution and de-escalation training

Join us to focus on increasing our understanding, confidence and skills in conflict management and de-escalation.

This workshop, run by Edinburgh-based workers’ co-operative Tripod, invites you to reflect and consider how to manage conflict. The approach will be informed by the values of transformative justice, collective care and anti-oppression. The focus will be on how to use these skills in public events, spaces you are responsible for, or when working with others in the community, whether professionally or personally. This includes learning about power dynamics, trauma, motivations and wellbeing.

Topics that will be included:

  • Practical models of de-escalation
  • Effective communication
  • Motivation and needs
  • Boundary Setting and safe-guarding
  • Psycho-emotional tools for grounding
  • Giving and receiving feedback

Tripod is committed to experiential education, which means that we’ll be learning by doing and that we’ll centre the experiences and knowledge already in the room. This will be an interactive session where participants are encouraged to actively engage with the information and subject matter through discussion and practice. Although we acknowledge practice and role play can be uncomfortable and unnatural, it can also be a great way to try out something new and get a feel for it, without the pressure of being in the situation for real. Any activities will be carefully introduced and you will be able to choose how you participate.

About Tripod

Founded in 2008, Tripod is a collective of facilitators, trainers and organisers from a range of grassroots backgrounds, identities and experiences. Tripod builds the power of social movements tackling the root causes of injustice in Scotland and beyond. As a collective of facilitators and educators, we connect people and develop skills to embody the liberated futures we’re fighting for. We seed active solidarity and strengthen strategic collaboration within and across movements.

About Love Is...

Love Is... a public training programme focused on community organising. Building more expansive ideas of what love is and can be, Love Is… aims to further a more collaborative and community-wide culture of learning, one that is rooted in generosity and in sharing our resources. What happens when we think of love as an active force, a route to social justice and community connection? What would it mean to approach training as a strong network of organisations and individuals in Huntly, together, as a town?

About the COMMUNITY programme

COMMUNITY asks what does it mean to be in community with others? How do we bridge differences and build coalitions towards shared goals and values? How do we work together in ways that don't replicate harmful systems? How do we hold each other to account and shift power dynamics in our town? Through this work we aim to foster rebellious, empowered and self-determining communities who are equipped to respond to the global polycrisis with empathy, solidarity and a global perspective.
