From this Land

Saturday saw the launch of the Rhynie Woman cookbook - Cooking the Landscape - and Aidan O'Rourke's CD - Imprint

Despite the weather, the Rhynie Woman were able to serve their delicious, seasonal Huntly pizza at the Farmers' Market. By using foraged ingredients, Debbie and Daisy created five different pestos, their Anything Cake and fruit teas, connecting to the local landscape through their food.

This was followed by Aidan's musical tour of the Cabrach. The bus and walking tour took us out to Wallakirk, Bracklach and the Cabrach School, positioning his music back into the landscapes that inspired them. With abandoned buildings as a backdrop Aidan created atmospheric performances that brought issues of land use, and our relationship with the land, into focus.

The evening discussion, at the Acorn Centre, carried on these themes, with Dr Gordon Noble, Archaeologist/University of Aberdeen; Ian Douglas, Access Manager for Moray; and locals Neil Sheed and  Jean Oliver, who contextualising these issues, as well as conveying their personal relationships to the area.
