Square Deal has been created so that communities in Huntly can come together, socialise, organise and build connections. Do you have an idea for a workshop, activity or event? Have you thought about starting up a new group or meet up? Square Deal is the space for all of these things and more.

A proudly inclusive and welcoming venue in the town, Square Deal is set up to be easy, accessible and affordable to use. It is comfy for small groups, but can sit up to 30 people for larger events. In using Square Deal, you are joining a growing and diverse community of groups, organisations and initiatives who call Square Deal home. Check out the calendar below to find out what’s on!

Practical information

Square Deal is offered for use on a trust basis. We invite you to care for the space as we do, for the benefit of everyone who uses it.
If you are using Square Deal out of usual working hours (Mon - Fri, 9am-5pm) we will give you an induction into the space so you can use the space safely and comfortably in the evenings and at the weekend. 
There are tables and chairs in Square Deal. Two cross-cutting curtains at the front and back of the space allow for smaller areas to be created and/or offer privacy from the street if required.
The space has a fully equipped, compact community kitchen.
There is wifi, a projector and conference call speaker/camera available to use. We can support with AV set up if needed.
Square Deal has a wheelchair accessible toilet, baby changing facilities and level or ramped access throughout from the town square. There is an access guide available online here, with photos, details and sensory information.

Cost

Public bookings

Square Deal is available to book for community groups, events, activities and meetings.

For this type of booking we use a 'pay-what-you-can' system to ensure cost isn’t a barrier to its use. Square Deal costs £0-£12 per hour, depending on your activity and budget. As a general guideline:

community-led, not-for-profit activity will pay £0-£8 per hour
commercial or for-profit activity, or activity by organisations with funding in place will pay £9-12 per hour
Full day (24 hour, 12am-12am) booking costs are capped at 10 hours - i.e. if you are paying £8 per hour and would like to book 2 full days or a full weekend this will cost £160 - £8 x 10 hours x 2 days.

We will discuss the cost openly with you and can be flexible depending on what's possible for you. We do not ask for proof of income or need, instead ask groups to reflect honestly on what they can contribute towards the running of the space. Those who pay make it possible for many, many groups without funding to use the space for free.

Family bookings

We can offer Square Deal for private hire - this is suitable for family/friend get togethers, for example birthday parties, wakes or reunions.

We operate a fixed rate for private family hire of Square Deal:

£70 half day (up to 4 hours)
£120 full day (5 to 8+ hours)

Square Deal is a community hub used by many individuals and self-organised community groups. These hire rates contribute to the continued provision of the space for the wider community.
