Food Chain: Shami kebab with ghee parathas
Food Chain is a monthly community-led cookery workshop. It's an informal, fun and friendly event, in which a in Huntly shares a recipe that means something to them. Once we have cooked the dish, we will sit and enjoy eating it together. Anyone is welcome to join in, but please book your space as these events are popular!
For this month’s Food Chain artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects, Rah Naqvi, will be sharing a recipe for shami kebab with ghee parathas. This dish is Rah’s mother’s specialty. It reminds them of Eid, and of travelling with their family on the sleeper trains when they would go and visit Rah's grandmother in Aligarh, India. Shami kebab is a pan fried mince patty (usually beef) with lentils and ground spices. Ghee parathas are a crispy flatbread, folded with layers of clarified butter.
There will be vegan and gluten free alternatives for both dishes.
Booking
Food Chain is free to attend, but we invite donations of up to £5 towards the cost of ingredients.
You can book a space via Ticket Tailor, or you can call us at the Deveron Projects office on 01466 794494 to reserve your spot.
Allergens & Dietary notes
There will be vegan and gluten free alternatives for both dishes. Please let us know if you are vegan/gf on booking. About the Home Programme
This event is part of our HOME programme. Through regular events and artists’ residencies, HOME supports the everyday and creative practices of cooking and eating, chatting and caring, sharing skills and learning together. HOME regular events include Friday Lunch, as well as the monthly Food Chain and a stall at the Huntly Farmers' Market. These events celebrate local knowledge and experiences, and explore what it's like to live and work in and around Huntly. Through this work we aim to build more complex understandings of Huntly and its place in the world.
If you'd like to contribute to the HOME programme, or know someone who you'd love to hear from, then get in touch with us on: info@deveron-projects.com.
